Kayochem, originally Kayo Fine Chemicals, first opened its doors 15 years ago in November 2006. Tracy De Bruyn and Kathy Odendaal had worked together for several years before deciding to venture out to start Kayochem. Like any new business, the first few months were difficult – hours were spent on cold-calling, purchasing stock, and building systems from the ground up. Ten months into the project, Kathy was murdered in a home invasion, an event that shook the stability of the company. And yet, Kayochem persisted, making it through one trial after the next. This is where we have often found our strength lies – in our perseverance and passion.
Kayochem was built on the foundation of strong relationships. Losing Kathy shook things up in a big way, and since then we have worked consistently to ensure that building and maintaining relationships lies at the heart of what we do.
